 John Beck Consultant
John Beck is a founding director of the Charter Oak Consulting Group. Incorporated in 1986, Charter Oak is a management consulting firm that specializes in the people side of business – Leadership, Teamwork, and Organizational Effectiveness.
John is the creator of The Leadership 4 System and co-author of The Leader’s Window (Wiley, 1994). His consulting focuses on Leadership – 360° feedback and executive coaching based on competency models that are custom-designed to each organization’s language, culture, opportunities, and challenges. John also helps functional and cross-functional teams improve the quality of their teamwork as they confront real-time problems. And he promotes Organizational Effectiveness by helping leadership teams realign their organizations to produce improved results. John conducts training programs on The L4 System, Communication 4 Effective Leadership, Coaching Skills, Teambuilding 4 High Performance, Leadership 4 High Performing Teams, Consulting Skills and Organization Alignment.
He has worked with many organizations including Boise Cascade, BP Amoco, Carrier, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Coopers & Lybrand, Dexter, Digital, The Hartford, Hartford Steam Boiler, Heublein, Lotus, MCI, Mass Mutual, Miles Pharmaceuticals, Otis, Pratt & Whitney, Saint Gobain, Shawmut National Bank, Southern New England Telephone, Connecticut State Government, Travelers, and Union Carbide.
Before starting Charter Oak, John spent ten years as a professor in the Business School at the University of Hartford. At the University, he served as Director of the Master of Science in the Organizational Behavior program, Chairman of the Management Department and Dean of Graduate Studies.
John completed his Doctorate and Masters in Organization Development at the University of Massachusetts and his Bachelors in English at Dartmouth College. John is a founder of the OD Network of Western New England, a past president of the organization and a former member of its Executive Committee.
John’s personal interests include tennis, skiing, windsurfing and complex puzzles. He enjoys good literature in the form of movies, plays and books. Above all, he loves spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and two children, Laura and Andrew
